At the
International School of Toulouse (IST), children from Foundation stage to Year
6 have PE lessons, led by three PE teachers who are French Nationals and who
conduct the lessons in French. Primary students have two sessions of PE per
week: one session is organized inside and one outside.
All IST pupils
must have a PE kit as prescribed in the School uniform document and have a
medical certificate to be able to take part in sports activities.
PE is taught in
the School’s purpose built facilities including a purpose built sports hall, a
100m track, a long-jump track, an all-weather pitch and a hard court area.
Children from Year 3 may also go to a local swimming pool, depending on
availability.
Aims for PE in
Foundation Stage 1 and 2
During the
Foundation Stage years, PE is a physical development and is about improving skills
of coordination, control, manipulation and movement. It helps children gain
confidence in what they can do and enables them to feel the positive benefits
of being healthy and active. Effective physical development helps children
develop a positive sense of well-being.
By the end of Foundation Stage the vast majority of children will:
- Move with confidence, imagination and in safety
- Move with control and
coordination
- Show awareness of space, of themselves and of
others
- Recognise the importance of keeping healthy and
those things which contribute to this
- Recognise the changes that happen to their bodies
when they are active
- Use a range of small and large equipment
- Travel around, under, over and through balancing
and climbing equipment
- Handle tools, objects, construction and malleable
materials safely and with increasing control
